Patriot

In the aftermath of the Onslaught crisis, the Fantastic Four & Avengers are gone - sacrificing themselves to destroy Onslaught. Only the X-Men remain as a superteam but with mutant hysteria at an all time high & mutant numbers thinned considerably by the Legacy Virus, they have gone underground.

Will new heroes step forth in a world that has little heroes left?

Brief Background

As a teen Rick Coleman idolized Captain America. He enlisted in the army at the age of 18 and quickly stood out among his peers. Excelling in several key areas after completing basic training he was tapped for Special Forces and after several successful ops, was hand-picked for recruitment with S.H.I.E.L.D. by Gabriel Jones.

Shortly after the Onslaught incident, Rick was consigned to a team of agents tasked with investigating rumors of Skrull infiltration. During one such assignment an enhanced Skrull warrior with powers similar to that of the Super Skrull, dispatched Agent Coleman’s entire unit leaving him the sole survivor of the encounter. During the combat Rick sustained severe injuries and was left for dead by his Skrull attacker.

Gabriel Jones intervened on Agent Coleman’s behalf and volunteered him for an experimental procedure that employed bleeding edge technology in bionics and nanotech to repair and enhance Rick’s physical body. After weeks of learning to adapt to his new body, Coleman was approached by non-other than Directory Fury with a special proposition. Believing that America and the world needed to fill the void left by Captain America, Rick Coleman was offered the opportunity to become the world’s newest Super soldier.

Knowing he could never replace Captain Rogers, Coleman was uncomfortable with the prospect, but agreed that the world needed heroes now more than ever. After months of additional specialized training and outfitted with a newly updated Photon Shield and a sleek new costume designed more in line with today’s military sensibilities. Rick Coleman adopted the code-name: “Patriot” and has agreed to become a fighting force for freedom in a world without heroes.
